Murcia Airport passengers up by 30 per cent
Despite positive growth figures, Corvera still has barely a sixth of the passengers San Javier had 17 years ago
According to the latest stats from airport management company Aena, the Region of Murcia International Airport closed the month of February with 27,561 passengers passing through its terminal, which represents an increase in traffic of 32.6% compared to the same month in 2023.
Of the total number of passengers registered in February, 27,517 were commercial passengers, and of these, international tourists were once again the majority.
However, it’s still a good 40% lower than the figure for 2019, the year in which the airport was created, and in comparison with the passenger numbers seen by San Javier airport in February 2007 – 180,572 – it is a drop in the ocean.
For comparison, the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport had over one million passengers last month for the first February in its history.
Corvera just won the award for Best European Airport in the category of airports with fewer than 2 million passengers. In terms of the number of flights, Murcia airport handled 250 movements in February, 38.9% more than in 2023.
The Murcia airport handled a total of 54,438 passengers during the first two months of the year, which implies an accumulated growth of 26.7% compared to the same period last year. In terms of flights during these same months, these increased by 25.2% with 526 operations registered.
