The Paseo Rosales, the main pedestrian avenue of Molina de Segura
Shops, cafés, bars and restaurants along the main artery of daily life in Molina
The Paseo Rosales is the long pedestrian street which runs through the centre of Molina de Segura, from the Parque de la Compañía to the massive ficus tree in the Plaza de la Región Murciana, just a few dozen metres from the 18th century parish church dedicated to La Asunción.
This street is an essential part of the daily life of the town, and is frequented by locals of all ages at practically all times of day. Along it are numerous shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, as well as banks, ice-cream parlours and a primary school, and the whole avenue is lined with ornamental orange trees.
Almost along its entire length the street is flanked by apartment blocks, and although this might not sound picturesque these are some of the most prized properties in Molina: in many cases flats here are around double the size which is now considered normal, at over 200 square metres!
During the annual fiestas, which are held in September, a carnival atmosphere exists along the street, with processions livening up the evenings, and the same is true of the Semana Santa celebrations in Molina de Segura. But at no time of year is the street quiet, as the variety of restaurants, cafeterias and watering holes, allied to its central location, ensures that if the Parque de la Compañía is sometimes referred to as the green lung of the town, the Paseo Rosales is the main artery along which its life flows.
